Dennis Quaid -- The Morning After

Just moments ago, Dennis Quaid returned to the scene of the non-crime -- retrieving the truck that cops suggested he trade for a cab last night outside of an L.A. restaurant called Philippe.

This time, he was able to leave without incident ... we're guessing his bar-top-dancing buddy is still sleeping it off.

Quaid & Co. -- Coyote Ugly Before Near DUI

Before cops cut Dennis Quaid a break by strongly urging him to get a cab -- instead of a DUI -- his crew was living it up inside Philippe ... on top of the restaurant's bar!

Dennis Quaid -- Technical DUI?

Dennis Quaid lucked out big time last night. Cops tell us the actor could have been hit with DUI since he did get behind the wheel of of his car -- while the motor was running -- and turned the wheel for a split second.

Cops tell us if the motor is running and you're behind the wheel -- you can get busted for a DUI. Cops eventually told Quaid to get out of the car -- and he took a cab home.

We're told the decision to bust is at the officer's discretion, which in this case, saved Quaid's ass ... so we gotta ask ...

Dennis Quaid Avoids DUI by a Hair

Dennis Quaid is a lucky man ... because last night he was about 1 inch away from getting arrested for DUI.

Dennis Quaid: Click to watch
It happened at Philippe restaurant in West Hollywood early this morning. Quaid, his wife Kimberly and a friend walked outside and the valet had already brought the car up ... the motor was running.

They got in -- Quaid behind the wheel. It looks likes Quaid may have moved the car a foot when a cop pulled up alongside and urged Quaid not to drive.

Dennis responded that he didn't want to drive. The cop repeatedly said, "Get out of the car." Quaid responds, "What do you want me to do." Quaid then asked the cop if they could go back inside the restaurant and the cop said yes.

They went inside and came out a short time later to a waiting cab. The paps screamed "You don't want a DUI. You don't want to end up like Mel Gibson." Everyone, including Dennis, laughed and they drove away.

Quaid Babies Settle Drug Lawsuit

Lawyers for Dennis Quaid's twins have settled their lawsuit with Cedars-Sinai, the hospital that made mistakes with the drug Heparin that almost killed the babies.

Under the terms of the settlement the hospital will pay each child $250,000.

Dennis Quaid and Kimberly Buffington previously settled their dispute with Cedars last December for $750,000.

According to the docs, the babies have "not recovered completely from the effects of the injuries." The docs says "the overdose has subjected the [children] to emotional and possible future injuries..."

Under the settlement, Cedars has agreed to provide future medical care for the twins if it's related to the hospital mishap.

Dennis Quaid -- Cedars Really Stepped It Up

Dennis Quaid returned to the hospital that almost killed his twins -- but he's now applauding Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for taking steps to make sure it never happens again.

As TMZ first reported, the twins nearly died last year when they were given an overdose of a blood thinner called Heparin, and on today's "Oprah" he toured Cedars to see how they've improved the system with computerized record keeping.

He looked pleased with the results -- and also said his kids are now "healthy and happy."

Dennis Quaid Settles with Cedars

Dennis Quaid and his wife have settled their dispute with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center over a bungled procedure that almost killed their twin babies last year.

TMZ broke the story that the infants were mistakenly given a massive overdose of Heparin. We've now obtained legal papers stating the Quaids have settled their dispute with Cedars for $750,000, subject to court approval.

Interestingly, the Quaids never filed a lawsuit against Cedars -- targeting the drug manufacturer, Baxter Healthcare Corp, instead.

The settlement has no bearing on the claims the babies could make against Cedars-Sinai. Translated -- the infants could still file a massive lawsuit against the hospital, but the Quaids have put their dispute with Cedars to rest.

These papers have no impact on the Quaid's legal dispute with Baxter.

Dennis Quaid Racks Up More Legal Woes

First it was the whole mess with his twins that triggered a lawsuit, and now another legal problem.

Seems Dennis believes he got stiffed on a $70,000 loan. So he's suing New Yawker Steven Mendelson claiming the 2001 loan has gone unpaid and Quaid wants his jack back.

In the lawsuit filed in L.A. County Superior Court, Quaid claims Mendelson defaulted on the loan more than 4 years ago, but it seems they went back and forth trying to resolve their dispute but ultimately couldn't.

Quaid is suing for unspecified damages.

Quaid to FDA: Mind Your Own Business!

Hell hath no fury like a father scorned!

After Dennis Quaids' newborn twins were mistakenly given a massive overdose of a blood thinner last November, they sued the drug's manufacturer, Baxter Healthcare Corp., claiming the label on the bottle contributed to the foul-up. Baxter says it's not their problem because the FDA approved it, and they're trying to back out of the lawsuit on a technicality.

Now he's testifying on Capitol Hill today, hoping to prevent other drug companies from weaseling out of similar lawsuits.
